The analogy with soccer is useful to repeat one more time that the key is to bet on excellence, enhancing talents. Gianmario Verona, dean of Bocconi University (Milan), has just been informed that its management course ranked sixth in the world (source: Financial Times). Verona will be guest at StartupItalia! Open Summit on December 17 th 2018 (register here!).
In a long interview to our journalist Giampaolo Colletti, the professor explained the recipe for success: mandatory classes of coding, philosophy and a deep attention to the academic group, aimed to transform the so called “brain drain” in a “brain gain”. “Coding is essential – says Verona – But we focused on enhancing a number of soft skills, behavioural abilities highly valued by firms”. A radical change. “Today every company needs a data scientist, but even someone able to read between the lines of complexity, to enlarge the vision. In this, I believe university must change the paradigm of the Nineties: it must give generalist options, avoiding pure specificity”.
